The History of Karaköy Güllüoğlu – from Gaziantep to Istanbul to Munich
The history of Karaköy Güllüoğlu begins in the mid-19th century in Gaziantep. Hacı Mehmet Güllü, known as "Güllü Çelebi," lays the foundation for a tradition that will continue for generations.
To perfect his craft, he spends many years in Aleppo and Damascus. Upon his return, he opens his first baklava stand in Gaziantep – the beginning of an extraordinary success story.
This artisanal knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. In 1949, the fourth generation, Hacı Mustafa Güllü, brings production to Istanbul and establishes the brand in the Karaköy district. The name "Karaköy Güllüoğlu" emerges and quickly becomes an integral part of Istanbul's culinary culture.
With increasing demand, production also grows. In 1993, Nadir Güllü founds a modern production facility, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary production methods.
Today, Karaköy Güllüoğlu stands for the successful combination of tradition and innovation. In addition to classic specialties, modern varieties such as vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-reduced baklava are developed – adapted to the needs of an international clientele.
But this story does not end in Istanbul.
The centuries-old tradition of Karaköy Güllüoğlu is now also continued in Munich.
In the heart of the famous Viktualienmarkt, Nadir Güllü brings this unique culinary culture to Europe. The freshly made baklava, prepared daily, are not just a product, but a cultural experience.
